Every day we’re told that we’re in the middle of an insurtech space race. Everyone is moving towards a digital future, and blockchain, AI, and machine learning will change the insurance industry forever.
We aren’t panicking. Since we launched Apollo Exchange, we’ve spoken with hundreds of other insurance professionals, brokers and carriers. Many of us are being told that the digital tsunami is coming, and we’re all going to be swept away. At the same time, their day-to-day work isn’t really changing much at all.
Nobody is debating the potential opportunity that the digitization of insurance can offer, but when it comes to taking positive action towards it, many deflect. Some have a ‘digital person’ who takes care of that stuff. Many of them are too busy doing business the way they’ve always done business, with no time to overhaul their entire process.
They’re good at what they do, and what they do isn’t leading a digital initiative or restructuring their organization to incorporate technology; it’s insurance.
But we believe those things aren’t mutually exclusive. It just takes one small step to begin your digital transformation. You don’t have to hire a millennial, or contract an expensive digital consultant who will come in and give you a laundry list of items to add to your already busy day.
That’s why we started this series of articles, which we call “One Small Step.” It is aimed at helping brokerages gradually adapt to the digital insurance landscape. Because while the insurtech stories may be dramatic and overstated, they get one thing right: the world is changing, and there is a huge opportunity for those who are willing to capitalize on it.
What nobody is talking about is how easy the internet has made it to take one small step. Neil Armstrong’s “one small step” nearly 50 years ago took millions of dollars, and an entire crew of some of the world’s greatest minds working together. Today, we have computers in our pockets with the same computing power NASA had back then, but very few in the insurance industry are taking advantage of how easy it is to just do one thing a little bit better.
Apollo Exchange is dedicated to showing every broker how easy it is to make that one move forward in their digital transformation, by showing how to set up company pages on social media, the difference between organic search results and ‘cost per click’ (CPC) Google advertising — the list is endless, but it isn’t complicated.
Here are a few of the topics we’ve covered recently or have in the pipeline. None of these items will take you more than 15 minutes to implement, and you won’t need any special expertise.

We’re learning about new initiatives every day, from our partners and our peers — so why not share the wealth of information in a way that’s easy for insurance professionals to access? And if you have a question you’d like answered, send it over, we’re happy to talk about new technology and do the extra homework you might not have time to. You’re also able to subscribe to the blog so that you never miss an article.
Maybe you’ve already taken some of these steps. That’s great! We’d love to hear about what you’re doing, and give us feedback on the steps that we’re sharing. If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that everyone has their own story about how they’re interacting with technology, and we’re always interested in hearing them.
